According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2010 is the Year of a Golden Tiger, which begins on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011.

Year of the Golden Tiger

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Happy Chinese New Year!

A happy and prosperous new year!

Red envelopes are mainly presented at social and family gatherings such as weddings or on holidays such as the Lunar New Year. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits.

The amount of money contained in the envelope usually ends with an even digit, in accordance with Chinese beliefs; for instance 88 and 168 are both lucky numbers. It is a widespread tradition that money should not be given in fours, or the number four should not appear in the amount, as the pronunciation of the word "four" resembles that of the word "death", and it signifies bad luck for many Chinese.

  6. As a kid yes would adhere to the 'see no evil, talk no evil and hear no evil' especially the "die-die" thingy. But as years go by I sort of realised that it is not so much that we are afraid of dying when we dare not or cannot say "die" but just a reminder to us to have positive thinking at all times during CNY and the rest of the year. The old Chinese tradition is already into the Law of Attraction a few thousand years ago but with another way of approach. TQ
