Yee Sang

Today, I went to Taiping which is my hometown to meet my siblings. We had Yee Sang for lunch.

Yee Sang is the only Chinese dish that contains raw fish....

a very colorful dish indeed

It is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor.

all ready to be tossed up

used the chopsticks to toss it up..

as high as we can while saying 'auspicious wishes'

The height of the toss reflects the height of the diner's growth in fortunes.

all were eagerly and enthusiastically taking part

the outcome!

Yummy!

  13. Yee Sang is not a Foochow tradtional dish. But it is actually a healthy dish as it has lots of raw fish and greens...

Umai of the Melanaus is similar and so is a salad with shashimi.

A nice bed of thinly sliced lettuce and other salad greens with some thinly slice tuna would also be similar.

    Nice photos!
