Fake Notes

Yesterday my salesperson gave me 4 stacks of RM5 to be exchanged for bigger notes. I gave a stack to my cashier to count and she found out that 4 of the notes were fake ones.

they looked so real at a glance..

but look carefully, they were fake ones!

Well, we had received some fake notes before..
we are very careful nowadays..

    1. those fake notes can be so real and difficult to notice, especially when you are handling such big bulks, many would have overlooked..

    2. i think your salesperson didn't do that with intention and sure he would be surprised to know there are fake notes in the stacks he has given..

    3. anyway just 4 pieces of RM5 isn't a big amount.. so what did you do with those 4 pieces of fake notes??

    4. yes, she is very careful about that..
the salesperson was there, so we returned to him..
      he didn't check them earlier..

  4. They are fake because they do not have the clear portion (see through plastic portion) at the left, is it?

I am also curious - what did you do with them?

  13. Fake notes...

Cashiers usually check the big notes but not small ones. Your staff is good to detect them.

  14. NVM, learn from experience then. In a glance its hard to determine it is real or fake.

i just dont know it it works on you paper bills as well

    ReplyDelete
  18. back then, when i was still working on a fatfood chain we have that checker
and very bill form 100 - 1000 pesos has to be checked on that first

  23. Hi Wenn,

I found a news report dated 2007 here:

    http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/1/4/nation/16473665&sec=nation

    that stated:

"KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia has denied a news report on a fake RM5 polymer banknote.

The bank said in a statement yesterday that the report was misleading. It claimed that investigations by the bank showed that the banknote was genuine and that the faded print was caused by chemical reaction."

And about the security features of RM5 here:

    http://www.bnm.gov.my/polymer/c1.htm

Which security feature was missing from the RM5 notes shown in your photo?

    4. What an interesting article!

I saw one Indon cashier who always tossed RM50 notes over many times to examine besides looking at the water marks. She told me that her boss will deduct her pay if found fake notes. She kena so many times no matter how hard she tried to check.

      Delete
    5. well, she should use the uv checker..

  24. So.. what to do with the fake notes? I think I will not be able to differentiate when I receive notes like that...

    ReplyDelete
  25. My boss gave me a fake RM50 he received and I still keep them till now. It looked so real with rough texture. It was so easy to see it was a fake but most people were not observant.

    1. we gave to the bank without knowing that one of the RM50 notes was fake and the bank cut it into half..then returned to us. :)

  26. Almost all countries in the world have faked currencies of their own circulating. Probably the richer the country, the more fakes will float.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love to look at foreign currencies especially their notes. I paid attention to their security features and I think our Malaysian notes have been upgrading & improving the security lines and transparent water marks! We are so kiasu and kiasi.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I started to see some companies preferring me to pay with credit cards instead so that they do not have to keep so much cash! That will also minimize fake notes.
