 Shirakawago Village
Shirakawa-go’s Gassho-Zukuri Village was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1995, along with the Gokayama Gassho-Zukuri Village.
The gassho style of building is characterized by steep, thatched roofs. These steep roofs connect over massive wooden beams, shaped like hands folded in prayer (gassho in Japanese). The houses are unique to the region, able to endure the heavy snowfalls of winter, while the upper reaches are ideal for the cultivation of silkworms.



Wada House

The Wada family house is a typical "Gassho-zukuri" style house (a house built in the form of hands steepled in prayer). In common with other such houses in the village, silk production took place in the upper stories with the living quarters located on the ground floor.


Takayama Jinya

Takayama Jinya is a former local government office originally built in 1692 and rebuilt in 1816 under Tokugawa Shogunate. Takayama Jinya administered the Hida Province. Although there were 60 regional headquarters and sub-headquarters during the Edo period, the Takayama Jinya is the only one existing today and as such is now covered by protective ordinances as a historical asset. Takayama Jinya has been restored to its configuration in the Edo Period.

    I like those sight-seeings! The temples, the lakes, mountains and now, this beautiful village..Reminds me of samurais.. I just watched The Last Samurai on Astro last week, hehe..

    you went to Shirakawago!! I have heard many about this UNESCO heritage site, it's beautiful and many people are flocking over there.. but I guess it would be easier to go in group tour, a little too inconvenient for backpacking trips..

    My friends visited this Shirakawa-go’s Gassho-Zukuri Village and even stayed overnight during the winter! It was a good experience for them.

Angry Birds

We went for breakfast one day and I was fascinated by those angry birds balloon. They were so colorful and kids would definitely love them.. angry birds balloons..lelong..lelong.. @@@ In Angry Birds , players control a flock of multi-colored birds that are attempting to retrieve eggs that have been taken by a group of evil green pigs. On each level, the pigs are sheltered by structures made of various materials such as wood, ice and stone, and the objective of the game is to eliminate all the pigs in the level. Using a slingshot, players launch the birds with the intent of either hitting the pigs directly or damaging the structures, causing them to collapse and kill the pigs. In various stages of the game, additional objects such as explosive crates and rocks are found in the structures, and may be used in conjunction with the birds to destroy hard-to-reach pigs. source
