Trust a customer?

This customer has been a regular to our shop and soon we become friends. He will always greet me as he knows my name. Similarly, I will greet him too. He is very friendly and sometimes we talk jokingly.

So as usual, he came again at midday yesterday. We greeted each other. As I was a little busy, he went to the other counter and waited to pay for his only item.

At the same time, one of my staff called me eagerly. I went out from the counter and she told me that person had stolen some sweets. I just went to that counter and looked at him. He's not suspicious at all.

As I was not taking any action, my staff reported to the boss. Meanwhile, this customer had already paid for his item and was walking out from our shop.

The boss quickly followed him and dealt with him outside. I didn't see how the boss handled him. He came back with three bars of chocolates, two packets of sweets and an ice-cream and two RM10 notes.

Seemed that the boss had got back his stuff and had asked the customer to pay for his pickpocketing. I calculated those items and it totaled up to RM9.60. I asked the boss why he took his money. He said it's to punish him for his behavior..

Poor thing..Guess he won't come to our shop anymore. Why in the first place, he stole? He is like a good friend and customer..
