The Lake Pukaki Visitor Centre is located in the centre of the spectacular Mackenzie Basin at the Mount Cook Lookout on the Shores of Lake Pukaki. The Centre is on the main highway approximately half way between Queenstown and Christchurch.

Mt Cook and Mackenzie Country is the high inland basin beneath the Southern Alps and Aoraki Mt Cook, southwest of Christchurch. Mt Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain, towers above the splendid cast of massive snow-clad peaks of the Mt Cook National Park.

  14. The height of Mt Cook is 12,316ft and Mt Kinabalu is 13,435ft high BUT Mt Cook looks more impressive than Mt Kinabalu because of the lovely lake and its longer range of mountains.
