Impossible friendship

I had a friend when I was in college. He had a Japanese girlfriend who was a staunch Buddhist. He himself was a staunch Christian.

He was very proud of his girlfriend. Since he was a good guitarist, my friend and I became his students. He was a very dedicated and patient teacher. Being kind, he even refused our payment.

We managed to learn classical plucking of the guitar. I still remembered that particular music.

One day, he called me and told me that his girlfriend's parents had disapproved of their friendship. He was so sad and he needed a friend to cry on. So I lent him my shoulder. I consoled him and said:

Don't be sad..there are plenty of fishes in the sea.

The next day, he wanted to see me again. I told him:

I am just your friend.

He asked:

Do I have the chance to be your boyfriend?

I thought he was being desperate so I said:

Sorry..I have a boyfriend.

That weekend, I was not at my rented room. When I came back, I saw a note underneath my door. Slowly I read the note:

I have written a song for you..

Since then, he didn't call me anymore. I never see him again.

  3. A Japanese girlfriend who is a staunch Buddhist?

AFAIK, Japanese are very secular. A person can profess more than one faith, so the total number of Buddhists, Shintoists, Christians, Muslims etc. add up to be more than the whole population.

Now I am suspecting that it's your friend's parents who disapproved the relationship, not the other way round.

BTW, thanks for dropping by at my site :)

  4. Hi Wenn, love withers with predictability, its very essence is surprise and amazement.
To make love a prisoner of the mundane is to take its passion and lose it forever.

He was a real gentleman, a classy one too, and concluded the friendship with grace and style.
But he left his footprints among your beautiful memories.

Have a pleasant week, Wenn, and keep a song in your heart....somewhere, some place a Japanese gentleman has his own beautiful memories too. Lee.

  5. It would make every girl think he was out for a rebound. After all it was like one day only after he ended with his Jap girlfriend. Besides, it isn't a point to get into another relationship not long after another. Doesn't proof anything but "I just don't want to be lonely" or "Making use of you to get over a lost love" pfft.

  6. Hi Wenn, I lost you on my radar at Immigration checkpoint. Regret unable to sniff the Dior scent.
    Which door you knocked? Lee.

  11. I echo Tekkaus' comments. He may have been very emotional and just wanted to jump at the chance of being with someone within near reach. Some people can't stand being alone especially after a breakup. Some can't do without a mate at anytime.

  12. yea, normally after break up a person will get too emotional and want to jump into a new relationship immediately to fill in the "emptiness". it's called the rebond relationship, quite dangerous though and normally it doesn't last long. :) glad u rejected him at the first place. :)
