A silly mistake
I was keying in the amount of 3 items. The first item was RM11.70. The other two items were 2 packets of milk powder which cost RM20.50.
Firstly, I keyed in RM11.70. Then I keyed in 2 x RM20.50 and it showed RM41.
Usually, I would pressed the subtotal but this time I just stopped at RM41.
The customer pointed to the first item and I nodded my head as I had keyed in the amount in the first place.
So he just gave me RM51 and I gave him back RM10.
My silly mistake. I realized the amount came to RM52.70.
Too late, the customer had taken the change and left our shop.
I just stayed cool as I realized immediately that I had made a mistake. I couldn't do anything as I had another customer to serve.
So today I lost some money..That's very bad. I must be careful next time..
Do you think the customer would realize that I had made a mistake and would come back to pay me for the first item?
Hope he does.. then u wont have to lose.. i guess he knew otherwise he wont point at the 1st item to you..
ReplyDeleteMaybe? :p Perhaps that customers didn't know?
ReplyDeleteHopefully the customer would, but if not, then just count that as a loss.
ReplyDeleteI think most of us think it's our lucky day if cashiers punch in wrong (as in cheaper) price.
ReplyDeleteBut we would point out and come back if stores charge us more. Don't you think so? :D
Claire, I suppose he realized too but why bother.. it's not his fault..(he might have thought)
ReplyDeletetekkaus, he might come back if he is really honest.
ReplyDeletefoongpc, i already accepted it as a loss but should he come back, that would be my lucky day.
ReplyDeletelina, we will definitely come back if the cashier charged us more.
ReplyDeleteI also sometimes don't check the change...
ReplyDeletekhengsiong, some people don't check it but some really check it.
ReplyDeletecommon mistake.
ReplyDeletesmallkucing, true but it's my carelessness.
ReplyDeleteI am always extremely careful with cashiers as a high percentage often keyed wrong food orders or give wrong changes, So, I would settle the matter before leaving if not I might have sleepless nights instead. I would return the change even if I need to drive back.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he will come back to pay you back the money
ReplyDeleteHe may realise the mistake but I wouldn't bet on him coming back.
ReplyDeleteHope he will come back and pay back the money.
ReplyDeletetwilight, that's very thoughtful of u.
ReplyDeletepete, i don't think he's coming back.
ReplyDeleteblossomflowergirl, i wouldn't bet on him coming back too.
ReplyDeletemNhl, he didn't come back as he's not our regular customer.
ReplyDeletehe knew i guess.. but the fact that u still give him the rm10 after him pointing to the first item made he walk away with the money :( common human error... :(
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your lst para, I thought your last 2 items only RM20.50 as you didnt say it as RM20.50 each!
ReplyDeleteWenn: I'm sure the person thought he had done right when asking if you had gotten the third item. They just went there way and wait for another day.
ReplyDeleteWin some, lose some. Never mind, lets move on, I'd say.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he thot u gave him a discount as he'd edi pointed out the 1st item to u.
