A silly mistake

I was keying in the amount of 3 items. The first item was RM11.70. The other two items were 2 packets of milk powder which cost RM20.50.

Firstly, I keyed in RM11.70. Then I keyed in 2 x RM20.50 and it showed RM41.

Usually, I would pressed the subtotal but this time I just stopped at RM41.

The customer pointed to the first item and I nodded my head as I had keyed in the amount in the first place.

So he just gave me RM51 and I gave him back RM10.

My silly mistake. I realized the amount came to RM52.70.

Too late, the customer had taken the change and left our shop.

I just stayed cool as I realized immediately that I had made a mistake. I couldn't do anything as I had another customer to serve.

So today I lost some money..That's very bad. I must be careful next time..

Do you think the customer would realize that I had made a mistake and would come back to pay me for the first item?

  3. Hopefully the customer would, but if not, then just count that as a loss.

  4. I think most of us think it's our lucky day if cashiers punch in wrong (as in cheaper) price.

But we would point out and come back if stores charge us more. Don't you think so? :D

  12. I am always extremely careful with cashiers as a high percentage often keyed wrong food orders or give wrong changes, So, I would settle the matter before leaving if not I might have sleepless nights instead. I would return the change even if I need to drive back.
