Parasol
The term parasol usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun, and umbrella refers to a device more suited to protect from rain.
During the Victorian Era, parasols were used not only by fashion conscious women, but also by power elite males.
They provide an effective shield from the sun and they are an important part of the overall dress ensemble.

The above parasols were so lovely. They were for sales at the Repulse bay. I should have got hold of it!
The word umbrella is from the Latin word umbra which means shade or shadow.
By the way, how many umbrellas do you own? Do you prefer the large, medium or the small ones? I like to use the large ones when it's raining dogs and cats.
Nice parasols so colorful with lovely borders looks like lace. Got a lot with various sizes at home but love carry big golf umbrella. Only use them when it pours when drizzling would choose to run haha. TQ
ReplyDeleteBig umbrellas are useful during a heavy downpour but can be quite bulky, hard to handle and hard to move around.
ReplyDeleteI'm like Bananaz. Only use one when it's pouring otherwise, I'll brave it out. :D
ReplyDeleteThose nice ones are so cute. I have one balck one with lace but have yet to use it. Sayang... :D
oh i love umbrellas too.. but somehow, one by on goes missing one...
ReplyDeleteI don't like umbrellas. Never good in using them. Always ended up 'flying' away like Mary Poppins..
ReplyDeleteI prefer a big and light one
ReplyDeletea large one and a small one given to me by my parents with Monet's "waterlilies" all over it.
ReplyDeleteumbra--n : a region of complete shadow resulting from total obstruction of light
Umbel--A flat-topped inflorescence(flowering part of a plant) in which the pedicels all originate from a single point, much like the struts of an umbrella. Queen-Anne's-lace (Daucus carota) has umbelliform inflorescences.
Lovely parasol texture! Did you bought it home wenn?
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty! They have great designs!
ReplyDeleteI have one of them, large and blue. Large, because there can stand under until three people. But if it's raining cats and dogs, than I have no place for other and need him only for myself, so I cant be dry...
ReplyDeleteServus, so long and have a nice day
Kvelli

ReplyDeleteThere have been times of troubles when I felt unhappy missing knowledge about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright pessimistic person.
I have never imagined that there weren't any need in large initial investment.
Nowadays, I'm happy and lucky , I started to get real income.
It gets down to select a correct companion who uses your funds in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, and shares the income with me.
You may ask, if there are such firms? I'm obliged to tell the truth, YES, there are. Please get to know about one of them:

Hi Wenn, they are beautiful. We have 5 umbrellas, all big golf ones given by friends.
ReplyDeleteBut I prefer a rain jacket.
You have a nice day, Lee.
It's beautiful indeed.
ReplyDeleteI prefer a large one as well. The umbrellas in the photos are really nice. But too small for my size.
ReplyDeleteI like all so lovely,
ReplyDeleteI love umbrellas too. Whenever I see nice and good umbrella, I will buy and keep but somehow goes missing one by one like Claire. I prefer with uv protection.
ReplyDeleteI have one very large (which I don't use because it's embarassing!) and two medium umbrellas. Those parasols are lovely!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. Love the pink one (*_*).
ReplyDeleteThe umbrellas are so pretty, but would that be good protection from the sun or rain? I would buy them if I can use it as decorations .
ReplyDeleteWith the type of downpour here, I juz love those huge golf umbrellas. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful parasols! I have a medium sized umbrella but I usually forget to take it with me!
ReplyDeletevery pretty parasols. I have 2 folding 1 ordinary and 1 large umbrella but I seldom use any of them! I take the folding ones overseas with me when I travel.
ReplyDeleteIt also was a fashion to keep your skin white to make a difference between the "upper class" and the workers who were brown by working outside or on the fields. Today we all want to be brown, lol !
ReplyDeleteUmbrellas remind me of Mary Poppins.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course the movie "Singing in the Rain...."
Umbrellas can be both positive and negative in imagery.....
Cheers. Nice post.
I rarely use an umbrella. It's difficult to catty an umbrella AND a camera. LOL
ReplyDeleteI prefer small umbrellas that I could carry around easily.
ReplyDeleteWhat? They still sell it? I thought only people living in the Victorian age use this. I believe if kids (girls) use this, they will look really cute.
ReplyDeleteWenn: Those are beautiful and at a great price.
ReplyDeleteI have four umbrellas, two small fold-up ones in the car. Two large golf type ones, one in the house and one in my golf bag. I like to walk in a gentle rain without an umbrella.
i didn't buy the parasols. i just simply admired them.
ReplyDeleteAwww....so cute and trendy. :p I thing I have more than 10? LOL :D Those are my wife's umbrellas to be precise. Not mine.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 umbrellas in my car. One big (golf umbrella) and another is Giordano umbrella. Depends on the rain, I use which umbrella accordingly :p
ReplyDeleteI have a large and small umbrella in my car! I always use the large one! Haha
ReplyDeleteI'd like to have those cute parasols too!
ReplyDeleteThe lace parasols are very delicate and pretty. Too bad we don't see them around here.
