Stealing

Today was a little quiet in the evening. It was about 4pm when it happened. I was near the counter calculating my staff's salary while two of my cashiers were serving the customers.

One of my cashiers called me to check the cctv just a few minutes ago. She suspected that the Indian guy stole the Ghee from our shop.

So I checked the cctv and sure enough he was a thief. He walked in empty-handed casually to the rack which stored the Ghee. He spent some time there and he even took out the price tag.

Casually he walked to the first counter and asked the cashier the whereabout of the boss. She told him that the boss was not in. He pretended that he had bought the item and he wanted to exchange for another item.

My cashier took a look at the item and realised that there was no price tag so she couldn't exchange other item for him. He just walked away as if nothing had happened.

I told my cashiers that if anyone should ask about the whereabout of the boss, they should say that he's around somewhere. We wouldn't dare to tell about the incident to the boss. He would definitely get angry and scold all of us.

Stealing has happened quite a number of times even though we have cctv..

    2. it's really not any of the staff's fault.. even if the boss himself is in the shop, he cannot guarantee this will not happen, correct??

    4. well, boss is always bossy. They expect workers to be very alert at all times..

  4. am wondering whether it would be a good idea or not if instead of scolding the staffs, maybe boss can reward the staffs with $$ for each thief caught. With this maybe staffs will be more alert. Just an idea la.

    1. It's not easy to catch them. Always after the incident when we watch the cctv.

  5. And those thieves make stealing like normal and right things to do now. Sigh! Do be careful. At least the things are stolen, not lives taken.

  6. Thieves and Shoplifters are growing by the numbers each day. It is a losing battle for police to wipe out the crime completely. Even the banks' ATMs have been stolen so many times!

So we always have to adopt the motto of "Prevention Is Better Than Cure". I am not sure about the layout of your racks but I saw one big grocery mart in KL that got fed up with the frequent losses. They had to shift the 2 cashier counters on both ends of the shop to act as watchful eyes as well. Another store shifted their cashier counter to almost the centre so that they could have 360 degrees view. Just my 2 cents.

Some 7 -Elevens in KL even lock their doors during the daytime! You have to press door bells! Ridiculous isn't it?
