Being good is no good

Just to tell you a true story. My main job is to make sure my cashiers do their job properly. By the end of the day, they will have to count the money in the cash register. After which, I will check it with the daily slip printed out from the machine. If the machine is short of cash, the cashiers will have to pay the shortage. But we give them allowance of RM5. It means that should they short of RM5 and below, they don't need to replace the shortage.

At times, it really happened that the shortage was beyond belief. It has become a norm and the cashiers have got the hang of it.

But recently, we got our new cash register machines in February. So this particular cashier always experienced shortage now and then. So she had to pay back almost RM300 plus which I deducted from her salary.

But this month, some other peculiar thing happened. She practically had extra cash in her cash register. Never mind about that but I suspected that she didn't key in some items but just put in the cash.

Few days ago, I had a great blow. Someone spread rumors that I cheated when I helped them to count the cash. Someone told the boss and he was furious. He shouted at me. I was confused as I never cheated in the first place. Why would I want to do that? I tried to defend myself but the boss was no ears to what I had to say.

I was furious and sad at the same time. I was accused of something which I never did. I didn't want to say a word but I was not satisfied. I couldn't find out the culprit so I stayed cool and calm for a few days. Then I decided to write a short note to the boss.

1. Do not shout at me at work.
2. Any problem, just tell me.
3. Remember I am not your staff.
4. I still help.
5. If it happens again, I will stop coming to the shop.

Before I gave him the note, he was in a good mood. I sensed his regret but he didn't say sorry.

I gave him the note and he read it carefully. Then he went back to have his bath. Since then, he was quiet. He tried to be nice to me. And I'm the one who always give in. So I forgave him.

  11. Oh. Poor you. I know how you feel. Really frustrating and sad for being accused at something you did not do.

Be calm and stay positive. And still keep track of the cashiers. One of them is the culprit and spread news.

  13. I feel sad for you. I hope you will be strong and firm in future towards the staff and boss too. You have treated them all very good yet someone could betray you with lies and the boss needs to change his temper too.
I am sorry to say that most men are very male chauvinists today and it is difficult to put their pride down. They will only change through self-realization which is a tough matter.

    1. My wife and I had a very terrible experience too. She treated a celebrity hostess very good and helped the then jobless hostess get a job by being her assistant in the editorial duty for a religious newspaper that was being read worldwide. This lady wanted freedom to do her freelance and spread very malicious lies amongst the temples until from KL to Taipei. Unbelievable but true.

    2. I get over it very fast. Now I make sure I am careful of what I'm doing.

Each and everyone of us is bound to experience something horrible. And through this, we learn to be smarter.

  14. Aww! *Hugs*

Never mind, Wenn, life's like that. The important thing is to be able or have the guts and presence of mind to rectify it and move on with life - which you seem to be able to accomplish and doing it very well, if I may add. Kudos!

Life is really what you make of it, isn't it? Cheer up!
