Socso Claims

One day, on his way to work, my staff, L was involved in an accident and he was given a week medical leaves. He was on leave for two days and then he came back to work. After a week, he was given another month's medical leaves and yet he came to work.

He submitted his Socso claims through the boss's secretary and I had no idea what was going on. One day, the officer from the Socso department called and I answered the call. She wanted me to accompany L to see her the next day. She told me to photostat L's salary record for the whole year.

So the next day, we met the officer. After some forms signing in front of her, she asked me to send  her the attendance record of L. I duplicated the attendance record and sent to the officer.

After a week, she called and told me that Socso wouldn't pay for his claims for the medical leaves as according to his attendance record, he was working during his medical leaves. She put it this way: 'We don't pay since he's still capable to work.' I told her that he just came to work as he had so much work to do.

After another week, L received a cheque but not to what he had expected. He was not happy. My secrectary who just came back from her holidays went to appeal but not successful.

Since he was not happy, the boss paid him compensation and he's happy again. To him, money is everything!

  1. This post is an eye opener to me in some ways. I am fully aware that Socso and Insurance companies are damn smart these days so we better be honest. Your staff should be grateful that her boss was so kind to offer compensation out of his own kindness. I hope the Elephant Gods will bless him always.

If known the conditions earlier then should adhere to them to get the full compensation.

  8. Hi Wenn,
Thanks for sharing. I have no idea what are the requirements to claim socso. At least now I know what cause a claim to be void.

  10. Here in the states you don't get workers compensation at all if you work even a little bit. Nice of the boss to compensate him.

  16. So next time, when is given medical leaves must go on resting at home. hehehe...

  17. The amount given by SOCSO is very little right? Not even to bear the medical expenses. This is because the medical leaves given is a week, base on his attendance, he only takes 2 medical leaves only. The compensation is base on the medical leaves compare against the his basic salary. SOCSO needs to do some calculations. L probably will be given more. My company at least must be on leave more than 4 days only can claim for SOCSO.

    1. Somehow it depends on what kind of situation and how serious it the case.

  18. To appeal the case, more tedious information and L's health history, medical informations are required. Can say very "ma fan" one. But no choice...

They also will interview L if let say he wanted to appeal the case. They will have an interview session with a few selected panel to judge the case.

    1. L probably need to undergo a small test to judge whether he is capable to work and so on...

    2. In other words, we can always asked them first and explain to our employees whether they wanted to proceed with claims and so on.

    3. Not that we don't want to help, but at least he or she knows the right procedures and have to accept the decision from SOCSO.
