Just rinse it
I remembered my former neighbor told me not to soak vegetables in water but to rinse them. But I didn't listen to her advice. I prefer to soak them in water.
But recently I made a change. I rinse the vegetables before I soak them for a short while.
rinse them thoroughly to remove all the debris and even pesticides residues
then soak in clean water for a short while
- Mix 3 parts water to 1 part white vinegar (3:1 ) in a spray bottle.
- Spray on fruits and veggies to get rid of pesticide residue.
- Rinse with water after spraying.
- Fill a bowl with water and add 1/8 to 1/2 cup of vinegar, depending on the size of your bowl.
- Place your fruits and veggies in the bowl.
- Soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Rinse with water.
Good evening Wenn...

ReplyDeleteGood night...
ReplyDeleteGood evening wenn!
ReplyDeleteActually I think it's ok to soak the vegetables just for a while...
Anyway thanks for sharing the great tips!!
DeleteThanks for the tips! : )
ReplyDeleteSo must go buy vinegar! I normally use salt to soak my vegetables...
ReplyDeletei rarely cook so i am not very particular about this.. but i think it's better to have the veggie rinsed just the moment before we want to cook it, be it rinsed before or not.. my instinct tells me that rinsing is actually cleaning the veggie and this step is a must~~ :p
ReplyDeleteGood morning Wenn,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tips. It is a good idea to rinse before soaking because if soak without rinsing first, some of the unwanted stuffs that could be rinsed away could be soaked into the vege itself.
But according to some articles some water soluble vitamins could go into the water from the vege if the vege is put in water so the article does not recommend soaking vegetables but in order to get rid of pesticide, we have no choice but to soak the vege though I don't know whether this way is effective or not.
Best is to eat organic vege, no pesticide no need to soak but expensive.
Hope you have a nice day, Wenn. :)
This is an interesting post for me to learn something new again! Yay!
ReplyDeleteMy wife bought a special bottle of liquid specially for washing vegetables. I was always thinking that there must be natural and better ways to wash them if we cannot buy such liquids. Now you have shared them!
ReplyDeleteI reckon. Using that special liquid too often also I don't feel good. The best is go natural.
DeleteI do the same thing with vinegar. I hope it's doing the job.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Wenn. Taken your lunch?
ReplyDeleteI know about soaking vegetable and fruits in salt water but not vinegar...I should try since I know this method, I love those vegetable so making them cleaner will make me feel more at ease to consume them.
ReplyDeleteThanks your great tips Wenn. But we seldom soak with nivegar or spray with it.
ReplyDeleteUsually I heard people soak in salt water.
DeleteUsually what we did was rinsed first before we soak.
ReplyDeleteThere are some veggies need to rinse a few times before soaking it.
ReplyDeleteIf soaking also not for too long.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes add salt esp to cauliflower. The salt will dislodge worms. I've seen light blue worms (beautiful even to look at) after soaking cauliflower. The color is so light they are likely to be missed.
So far, I've never soak vege. I always rinse them. Cleaner that way.
ReplyDeletewell i think this is essential
